"I want you to act as if the house is on fire, because it is." - Greta Thunberg, World Economic Forum, Davos, 24 Jan 2019
We’re participating in the Global Climate Strike Protest. Will you join us?
The climate crisis has reached a new unprecedented urgency, with increasing greenhouse gas pollution from the burning of oil, coal and gas, the world has already warmed by one degree.
Here at home, Australians are already seeing the effects, including more frequent, longer lasting and more intense heatwaves, harsher droughts, coastal flooding and longer, more dangerous bushfire seasons. There is an uprising of people who are no longer willing to continue with 'business as usual' and ignore our planet’s decline.
Now, more than ever, our efforts to tackle climate change and contribute solutions must be accelerated. On September 20, thousands of Australian students and businesses alike will be taking to the streets in a peaceful and positive demonstration of global solidarity to reach for a better future.
For the Global Climate Strike this September, Crema Joe is participating in action against climate change by holding a meeting free day and encouraging staff to engage in the protests that are taking place around Melbourne City. Our climate is too important for our families and workplace to ignore. We are honoured with this opportunity to partner with organisations all around Australia who are proactively taking steps towards a better future - a new approach founded on human rights, justice and treating our precious earth with the kindness and respect it deserves.
We know that effecting change starts with individuals doing what they can - powering your home with renewable energy, investing in energy-efficient appliances, minimising water waste, eating the food you buy – with less of it meat, installing LED light bulbs, making your own compost, reducing your ecological footprint by sourcing sustainable solutions (like reusable coffee pods).
Whilst home-based environmental choices are good and worthwhile, there is something significant about joining with a larger population of people to raise awareness and demand better on a larger scale. To show world leaders, government and industrial corporations that complacency is no longer acceptable and communicate that the climate issue is worth our time, resources and attention.
At Crema Joe, we’re adding our voice to the growing numbers of people - students, universities, businesses and governments - declaring a climate emergency. Businesses, like ours, have a key role to play in amplifying this movement, and in driving change internally.
This is an opportunity to be part of a global community of people who want a world where we can live freely on a biodiverse planet. Let’s work together to create planet-strong impact and create a more conscious, happy future.
We strongly encourage you to take part. Please join us and hundreds of thousands of others around the world to strike for climate action on September 20.
